Wingate Gets Two SAC Player of Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Wingate University men's lacrosse team won both South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week awards for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 16. Bulldog junior attack Cory Schumacher (Gainesville, Va.) is the SAC Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman goalie Jacob Ormerod (Lake Mary, Fla.) is the SAC Defensive Player of the Week. Schumacher and Ormerod are the first-ever SAC men's lacrosse student-athletes to receive this distinction.

The Wingate men's lacrosse team defeated Young Harris (Ga.) College 12-6 Sunday, winning its inaugural game on the Irwin Belk Track Complex turf field. Schumacher had three goals and three assists to lead the Bulldogs in their season opener. Ormerod won his collegiate debut, playing 60 minutes and notching 14 saves. He faced 31 Young Harris shots.

Wingate hosts Mount Olive Saturday at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs open SAC play Feb. 26, visiting Coker for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
