Maness to Detroit Mercy
The University of Detroit Mercy announced its new coach yesterday: Laura Maness, most recently head coach at Division II Lake Erie (Ohio) College. Maness got her start as a coach while she was a student at West Virginia University coaching at Morgantown High School, which won four state championships during her tenure. She has experience with young college programs as well, as the inaugural coach at Division III Waynesburgh (Pa.) University in 2007 and again at Lake Eire in 2010. The Titans will be her first Division I team.
Maness went 10-20 in two seasons with the Storm. Lake Eire was 7-7 in its inaugural season but skidded to a 3-13 finish in 2011, competing in the tough East Coast Conference. Her bio also notes that she is a board member of the North Coast Ohio Chapter of US Lacrosse.
