Berger Resigns as UMBC Women's Coach

According to a release from the university, Kelly Berger has resigned from her position as coach of the UMBC women's lacrosse team after three seasons.

Berger was unavailable for the last two games of the Retrievers' 2012 season for undisclosed reasons. In her absence, assistant Tony Giro became the interim head coach. UMBC upset then-No. 19 Johns Hopkins, 7-6, under Giro on April 25, and fell to Stony Brook, 9-7, in the America East semifinals. The Retrievers finished the season with an 8-9 record, and overall had a 30-23 record during Berger's three seasons at the helm.

The release annoucing Berger's resignation stated that Giro and assistant coach Amy Appelt would "continue in their capacities with the program."
