Winter Storm Nemo Forces Schedule Changes

updated 02.09.2012 at 1.53 p.m.

A major winter storm in the Northeast this weekend has forced several early-season games to be postponed.

At the Division I men's level, Colgate's game at Bryant was moved from Saturday to 1 p.m. ET Sunday, and UMass' home-opener against Army was also rescheduled from Saturday to noon Sunday.

Stony Brook's home game on Long Island with Fairfield was first rescheduled from Saturday to noon Sunday. Then it was pushed back to 3 p.m. Monday before the schools announced Sunday afternoon the the game was cancelled with no make-up date announced, after Suffolk County, where Stony Brook is located, was hit with more than 2 feet of snow.

Lehigh announced Friday morning that its Saturday home game against St. Joseph's will be played at noon Sunday. Rutgers' home game with Manhattan has been moved from Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday, and the Scarlet Knights' women's opener, also against Manhattan, is now at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Parts of the Northeast saw 2-3 feet of snow by Saturday morning from what is being called Winter Storm Nemo.

A couple teams didn't have to worry about the winter weather. The Southern California women made their debut against Northwestern on Saturday night in Los Angeles, and the North Carolina women hosted Lacrosse Magazine's preseason No. 1 team, Florida, in a big early-season matchup Saturday, won by Florida, 5-3.
