'Monster' Applies Final Touches to First Woodstick Alumni Game

Tim Goettelmann, Lacrosse Magazine's 2010 Person of the Year, has been busy working on some last-minute preparations for the first Woodstick Classic Alumni Game to be held April 30 in Manhasset, N.Y., as part of an all-day event to benefit his charity, Monster's Kids.

Goettelmann, who became Major League Lacrosse's all-time leading scorer last summer in his 10th season with the Long Island Lizards and whose charitable work led to his nomination for LM's Person of the Year honors, has over the last month sent out reminder emails to family and friends about next Saturday's event. It's an all-day affair organized by Goettelmann, intended to raise money needed to renovate a playroom at Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York.

The day begins with a Lizards training camp session and ends about 12 hours later with the 120th meeting between the Manhasset and Garden City boys' teams, the longest uninterrupted public school lacrosse rivalry in the United States. They've played every year since 1935, and sometimes more than once per season.

"Please let all of your friends and family know that you do not need to be an alumni player to enjoy the day. All are welcome to each event especially the post game party," Goettelmann, nicknamed 'The Monster,' wrote in an email to family and friends Thursday. "We will also have bouncy castles and music for kids to enjoy."
