Baum To Play on LXM Tour, Signs with Adrenaline

About 12 hours after the MLL's Ohio Machine announced that 2012 Tewaaraton Award winner and 2013 No. 1 overall MLL draft pick Peter Baum was not expected to join the team this summer because of a meniscus injury, Adrenaline Lacrosse announced that Baum will play on the LXM Pro Tour starting at a June 8 event in Orange County, Calif. Adrenaline and LXM merged last year and Baum will have a fulltime job with Adrenaline's marketing team.

"I have a great deal of respect and am certainly appreciative of the Ohio Machine for selecting me first in the draft and wish them the best of luck in their season," Baum said in a press release. My decision to join Adrenaline and LXM PRO has everything to do with my desire to help usher in the new generation of conscientious lacrosse athletes in the areas that I have a personal connection with. I am excited to play at this high level with so many great players and am equally thrilled to be a part of the mission of Adrenaline and LXM PRO."

Baum has deep roots with Adrenaline, playing and coaching in its club programs. Ahead of January's MLL Collegiate Draft, there was speculation that Baum would join the LXM Pro Tour instead of MLL. But the Machine drafted him No. 1 overall anyway, and said Wednesday that Baum was not playing this year because of injury.

"After telling us that he has been battling a meniscus injury, we don't expect Peter to join the Machine this year," Ohio general manager John Algie said in a press release that also announced that rookies Marcus Holman, Logan Schuss and Dominique Alexander will join the team on Thursday for a CBS Sports Network televised game against the Hamilton Nationals.

Baum's production dropped significantly this year from his Tewaaraton winning campaign of 2011, when he had 97 points. Baum had 47 points this season for Colgate, almost exactly half his total from a season earlier, and Colgate's season ended in the Patriot League tournament semifinals.

Also in its announcement Wednesday, the Machine said that they expect another of their draftees, Lynchburg defenseman Joe Lisicky, to apply for a medical redshirt in the offseason after missing most of his senior year with a lower-body injury. Lisicky was Lacrosse Magazine's Division III men's Preseason Player of the Year.

Holman, a Tewaaraton Award finalist, and Schuss, a Tewaaraton nominee, join the Machine after their seasons at North Carolina and Ohio State, respectively, ended over the weekend in the NCAA quarterfinals.
