Munoz: Trying Out For U.S. Team This Weekend

Lyndsey Munoz

I have some great news this week! I have decided to tryout for the U.S. women's national team this weekend in Stony Brook. It was a hard decision to make because of airfare from California and also because we're still in school so I still have a lot of work to do. However, I figured out everything with teachers and flights, and we made it happen.

I'm extremely excited for the tryouts, a little nervous, but mostly excited. I'm also so happy that one of my teammates and best friends, Anna Kim, is coming with me. Since we both decided over the weekend, we are laxing as much as we possibly can! I'm not exactly sure how the tryouts go, but I just know we are playing a lot of lacrosse games.

It is really crazy how I watched the World Cup when it was in Annapolis in 2005. I was 11 years old and only dreaming of one day being on the U.S. team. Now, eight years later, I have the opportunity to make that dream come true. So how it works is we go to this tryout, and then if you make it through there's a second tryout at the end of July. I could be wrong, but I believe then there are other events throughout the year where the numbers are lowered until they have formed the 2013 World Cup team. Even if I don't end up making the team, this is definitely something I would like to pursue in my future if I can. I honestly just love lacrosse too much to stop when I graduate.

Not only do we get to tryout for the team while we're in Stony Brook, but we get to watch the final four. The final four should be two really good semifinal games – Florida vs. Syracuse and Northwestern vs. Maryland. All the teams in it are very talented. Unfortunately we had to compromise a little with school, and leave before the championship game on Sunday.

Even though the nerves are starting to come, I still have to focus on my schoolwork before I head out as finals are approaching soon. But hopefully things go well this weekend, I'm looking forward to it!
