from press release
DENVER – University of Denver men’s
lacrosse head coach Bill Tierney announced that Harrison Archer,
Harley Brown, Jamie Faus, Michael Pirone, JP Shipley, Jeremy Noble,
Paul Danko, John Zurlo, Nick Perfido, Cole Nordstrom and Matt
Kramer have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the
Pioneers beginning next season.
“Our staff is very excited to welcome its first recruiting class to the University of Denver,” Tierney said. “This group of young men will help us fill the needs left by the graduation of the fantastic Class of 2010.”
Joining the Pioneers’ already deep attack unit that includes junior Todd Baxter (Eden, Prairie, Minn.), and sophomores Mark Matthews (Oshawa, Ontario) and Alex Demopoulos (Canton, Conn.) will be Archer (Washington, D.C.), Pirone (North Bethesda, Md.), Noble (Orangeville, Ontario) and Danko (Towson, Md.).
“Offensively, these four will give us much needed depth and will be some very dynamic goal scorers,” Tierney said.
With the Pioneers graduating only one starting midfielder in Cameron Kerr (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.), the addition of Nordstrom (Bellevue, Wash.) Perfido (Heathrow, Fla.) and Shipley (White Hall, Md.) will give Denver even more offensive options.
“Defensively, these three will provide us with some strength, toughness and athleticism,” Tierney said.”
With the entire Pioneers’ starting defense graduating, newcomers Brown (New Canaan, Conn.), Kramer (Littleton, Colo.) and Zurlo (Bernardsville, N.J.) will be called upon to help rebuild the Pioneers’ back line.
“Finally, with the graduation of our starting goalie, we add a young man who will intensify the competition in 2011, for this all-important position,” Tierney said.
Joining sophomore Zander Buteux (Madison, N.J.) and freshman Troy Orzech (Franktown, Colo.) will be Faus (Lakeville, Conn.), a 5-foot-9-inch goalie from The Salisbury School.
“Our first year at Denver has been an immense success and we are very confident that we will only get better with the matriculation and maturation of the Class of 2014.”
At the conclusion of Coach Tierney’s first season at DU, the Pioneers will save farewell to 10 seniors: Charley Dickenson (Dallas, Texas), John Dickenson (Dallas, Texas), Nick Gradinger (Del Mar, Calif.), Jordan Hendry (Englewood, Colo.), Deke Jackson (Boise, Idaho), Kerr, Peter Lowell (Freeport, Maine), Dillon Roy (Denver, Colo.), Payton Sanders (Centennial, Colo.) and Peyton Tyrie (Greenwood Village, Colo.).
