Shane Donlan, a 2009 Lehigh University graduate and former men's lacrosse captain, was found dead Jan. 17 after he fell several stories from a Las Vegas strip hotel. Las Vegas police on Monday called the case an apparent suicide, according to The Associated Press.

Donlan's body was found between 1 and 1:30 p.m. outside the Imperial Palace.

"We were all shocked and incredibly saddened by the news about Shane," Lehigh athletic director Joe Sterrett told The Brown and White, a student newspaper. "He was a very committed member of our lacrosse program, COACH program and a really well-liked teammate and friend. There is a lot of sadness within our lacrosse program, and also within our larger student-athlete community. Through [Smith Family Head Lacrosse Coach] Kevin Cassese and other members of our Lehigh Athletics family, we have expressed our sympathy to the Donlan family, and especially to his brother Kevin [Donlan], '07, who also played lacrosse at Lehigh and was an active and visible member of our student-athlete and our Lacrosse Alumni communities."

Donlan, 23, was the Mountain Hawks' co-captain for the 2009 season.

"He was the heart and soul of our team," Lehigh head coach Kevin Cassese said.

A funeral mass for Donlan was held Tuesday morning in Midland, N.J. Donlan was from nearby Wyckoff and played high school lacrosse at Ramapo High School.
