Syracuse Names Team Captains for 2011

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seniors Josh Amidon (Lafayette, N.Y.), John Galloway (Syracuse, N.Y.), Thomas Guadagnolo (Jordan, N.Y.) and Joel White (Cortland, N.Y.) have been named captains for the 2011 season, head coach John Desko announced on Monday, Oct. 18. All four were elected in a vote by their teammates.

This second consecutive year White was selected as a captain. Amidon, Guadagnolo and Galloway will be serving in the role for the first time. All four players have a pair of national championship rings.

Amidon has played every game of his career since joining the Orange in 2008. He has 56 points in the 51 career games. Amidon was SU's highest-scoring midfielder and ranked fourth on the team with 27 points (14g, 13a) during the 2010 season and earned USILA Honorable Mention All-America status for his efforts.

Galloway, the team's starting goalkeeper, brought home a plethora of honors after the 2010 season. Included were the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award, presented to the nation's top goalie, USILA All-American First Team honors and BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year recognition. He led the nation and set the Orange season record with a 7.16 goals-against average last season. For his career, Galloway is tied for fifth all-time in Division I with 44 career victories.

Guadagnolo played in 14 games last year, mostly as a member of the man-down unit, and has 38 career appearances. He contributed to an SU unit that led the nation in scoring defense in 2010 (7.4 goals per game) in 2010.

White became the first defensive specialist to win the Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin Jr. Award as nation's most outstanding midfielder in 2010. He led SU in ground balls (78) and caused turnovers (31). White was second in the BIG EAST in ground balls per game (5.2) and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. For his career, White has 204 ground balls and has contributed 22 points (14g, 8a) on offense making him the program's all-time leading scorer among defensive players.
