Defending NCAA Division I men's lacrosse champion Duke will open the 2011 season Feb. 20 against Notre Dame in a rematch of last year's NCAA final as part of a double-header at EverBank Field, home of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jacksonville University, entering its second season, will host Georgetown in the first game. The Dolphins are the first Division I men's lacrosse team in Florida. JU officials say they hope to sell about 15,000 tickets for the event.

“It’s a growing sport,” associate athletic director Joel Lamp told The (Jacksonville) Daily Record. “Having a national event doesn’t only help us, but it also helps the city... It'll be the biggest lacrosse event ever in the state of Florida."

This is the latest of several lacrosse events slated for premier venues in 2011.

Inside Lacrosse, a partner in the Jacksonville event, will again host triple-headers in the March 12 Face-Off Classic (Syracuse-Georgetown, Cornell-Virginia, Hopkins-UMBC at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore) and the April 3 Big City Classic (Rutgers-St. John's, Hopkins-UNC, Syracuse-Duke at New Meadlowlands in East Rutherford, N.J.). IL will also stage the April 17 Day of Rivals double-header featuring Army-Navy and Hopkins-Maryland.

On April 16, the New England Classic will feature Syracuse-Providence and Princeton-Dartmouth at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.

On April 23, the ESPNU Warrior Classic will bring UMass-Hofstra and Rugers-Syracuse to Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn.

Ohio State will visit Denver to play at Invesco Field on April 16. A week later, the Buckeyes host the "Showdown in the Shoe," playing Fairfield at Ohio Stadium on April 23 in conjunction with the OSU's spring football game.

In women's lacrosse, former five-time NCAA Division I champion Northwestern will play William and Mary at Cowboy Stadium in Dallas on March 19.
