Led by an experienced defense, the nation's most dangerous long stick midfielder and the reigning Division I national goalie of the year, the Syracuse men's lacrosse team is the top-ranked team in Lacrosse Magazine's preseason poll, the publication announced Monday.

The Orange, which was upset by Army as the No. 2 seed in the 2010 NCAA tournament, will be backstopped by John Galloway and a stingy defense in front of him -- including All-Americans in John Lade and LSM Joel White.

Virginia is ranked No. 2. North Carolina, Stony Brook and Maryland round out the top five.

Stony Brook midfielder Kevin Crowley, the 2010 USILA Player of the Year, has been named LM's preseason player of the year.

Rankings were compiled by LM staff with consultation from college coaches. Click here for more preseason projections.
