Providence Defeats Wagner for First Victory

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Wagner, 13-5, in its home opener on Saturday. The game marks the Friars' first victory of the season and improve to 1-1 overall. Wagner drops to 0-3 with the loss.

Six Friars scored in the victory, including six goals from senior Jake Nolan (Westport, Conn.). Senior Peter Wujciak (Essex Fells, N.J.) and junior JT Weber (West Hartford, Conn.) each added two goals while juniorDaniel Textor (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and sophomores Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.) and Robert Stack (Medfield, Mass.) each added a goal in the Providence victory.

In the first quarter, the Friars came out strong gaining an early 2-0 lead as Nolan scored with 13:26 on the clock and Textor added a goal with 11:19 to play. Wagner responded with four goals to lead, 4-2, entering the second quarter. Providence answered with six-consecutive goals, including back-to-back goals from Nolan at the 6:52 and 4:36 marks to put the Friars back on top, 6-4.

Stack, Weber and Wujciak each scored their first goals of the season in the quarter. Barton also added one goal in the spurt. The Friars held the Seahawks scoreless in the second quarter and their offensive streak ran into the third quarter, as they scored four more goals before Wagner put a point on the board with 1:03 to play. Providence held a 12-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Nolan scored his sixth goal of the game and season at the 11:13 mark in the fourth quarter to cap the Friar victory,
