School Records Fall in Hobart's Win over Air Force

GENEVA, N.Y. — It was a record-breaking night for the Hobart lacrosse team as its wrapped up the season with a 12-8 ECAC Lacrosse League win over Air Force on Boswell Field at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. Three Statesmen toppled individual season records and senior midfielder Bobby Dattilo put the finishing touches on a career filled with broken records.

Sophomore attackman Alex Love produced a game-high six points on four goals and two assists. He raised his season goal total to 38 surpassing the Hobart Division I season record of 37 established by Nathan Roost '98 in 1997. Junior defenseman Reid Rosellocaused three Air Force turnovers to raise his season total to 20, two more than the Hobart season mark set last season by Alex Caton '11. In goal, sophomore Peter Zonino turned back 16 saves. With 175 stops in 12 games, he raised the Hobart Division I season saves per game mark to 14.58. Max Silberlicht '10 had the previous mark at 12.71 (2010).

First-year Taylor Vanderbeek notched three goals and chipped in an assist while seniorSam Miller also netted a hat trick. Senior Chris Pedersen handed out a career-high four assists. Dattilo won 13-of-24 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls.

Mike Crampton led Air Force with three goals. Keith Dreyer chipped in a goal, two assists and a team-high five ground balls. Tommy McKee scored twice. Kyle Cassady and Adam Paranka each logged a goal and an assist. Austin Fox started and played 30:46 in goal for the Falcons and made seven saves. Matt Sanders came in to play 29:14 and stopped five shots.

The Statesmen (4-9, 2-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first minute of the game. Vanderbeek struck first just 46 seconds in, and junior Ethan O'Connor found the back of the net just 10 seconds later after a feed from Dattilo. Air Force answered with goals from Cassady and Dreyer to tie the game up at two. The Statesmen added two more before the end of the first quarter for a 4-2 advantage. Love set up Miller with 10:42 on the clock, and sophomore Cam Stone fed junior Jake Silberlicht with 2:55 left in the frame.

Vanderbeek scored his second of the night 4:47 into the second quarter. Mike Crampton registered an unassisted tally to make it 5-3 with 6:28 to go before the half. The Statesmen rattled off three more goals for an 8-3 lead at halftime. Pedersen found Love at 5:38 and Love fed Miller just 31 seconds later. Pedersen then assisted a goal by Love for the second time with 4:25 on the clock.

The duo of Pedersen and Love struck again to start the second half giving Hobart a 9-3 advantage with 10:17 on the clock. The Falcons (6-7, 1-5) got goals from Tommy McKee and Crampton to cut their deficit to four. Pedersen sent a pass to Love who struck again for the Statesmen with 3:00 left in the third to make it 10-5.

Just 3:03 into the fourth quarter, Miller scored his second of the night after a pass from Vanderbeek. Air Force would not go away quietly, notching three straight goals to get within three. Adam Paranka sent home a shot with 10:46 remaining, and Crampton and McKee followed with goals coming 1:18 apart to make it 11-8 with 8:09 left in regulation. Vanderbeek capped the victory with his third tally of the night.

Air Force held a 40-30 advantage in shots and a 34-26 lead in ground balls. The Falcons were successful on 18-of-22 clear attempts, while Hobart finished 15-of-19. Air Force was 2-for-6 on extra-man opportunities, and the Statesmen were 2-for-7.


Love finished the season first on the team with 45 points, tying John Bogosian's 2003 total for ninth place on Hobart's Division I season list.Love also logged a pair of man-up goals to raise his season total to seven, the sixth highest total by a DI Statesman, matching David Spratlen (2000) and Eric Petranchuck (1997).Sophomore Cam Stone had one assist in the game, finishing the year with a team-high 29, the second highest total by a Division I Statesman.Dattilo led the team with 93 ground balls, tying his 2011 total for third place on Hobart's DI season list. His faceoff percentage dipped to .648, just a point off his 2011 record (.649).Dattilo finished with the Hobart DI career standards for faceoff wins (590), faceoff percentage (.603) and ground balls (284).Junior defenseman Sean Regan had 15 caused turnovers for the season, fifth on Hobart's all-time list.Sophomore defenseman Peter Bolte finished the year with 10 caused turnovers, eighth on the season list tied with Mike O'Brien and Jake Eisenhard.Pedersen handed out 21 assists this year, second on the team and tied for ninth in a DI season with Kevin DeWall (2000) and Mark Williamson (2004).Pedersen's final stat line includes 57 goals and 61 assists for 118 points and 19 caused turnovers. Among Division I Statesmen, he's fourth in career assists, fifth in caused turnovers, sixth in career points, and 13th in goals.Miller's final stat line includes 67 goals and 11 assists for 78 points. He's tied for eighth in career Division I goals.
