Fall Ball Weekend Preview: Women's Events Headline Slate

The second big weekend of fall ball is here and there are several women's events headlining the schedule. And away we go.

Friday Sept. 28


Duke at North Carolina, 6 p.m.
A pair of research triangle and ACC foes go at it in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels also host Winthrop at 4 p.m.

Friday Night Lights at UMBC, 7 p.m.
UMBC's head coaching duo of Tony Giro and Amy Appelt
debuts on the sideline against Johns Hopkins. The schedule:

7 p.m. UMBC vs. Johns Hopkins
8 p.m. Johns Hopkins vs. American
9 p.m. UMBC vs. American

Also, Georgetown at Navy, 7 p.m.


Florida State at Tampa, 7 p.m.
New Tampa coach Chris Burdick
, formerly of Providence, takes over the Spartans program starting its second season. They face Florida State from the MCLA.

Saturday Sept. 29


Northwestern, Ohio State and Notre Dame in Indianapolis, Times TBA
Park Tudor High School will host some talented teams and intriguing matchups, including a rematch of Northwestern's thrilling 13-12 win over Ohio State last March.

Ohio State vs. Notre Dame

Vanderbilt Play Day, 1 p.m.
Vanderbilt withdrew from an Oct. 13 play day at Navy
after being sanctioned by its athletic department for an event "that rose to the level of hazing," the school said. Despite that, the team will host Cincinnati and Louisville on Saturday in Nashville.

1 p.m.: Vanderbilt vs. Louisville
2 p.m.: Cincinnati vs. Louisville
3 p.m.: Vanderbilt vs. Cincinnati


Canisius vs. Dirty Lax All-Stars, 4 p.m.
Canisius and Team Canada head coach Randy Mearns pits his 2012 MAAC championship team against a group of 17 Major League Lacrosse and National Lacrosse League Players as part of the Griffins alumni weekend. Adam Jones, a Canisius alum and 2011 NLL rookie of the year, will be on the other side this time, along with all-stars Kevin Crowley, Cody Jamieson, Stephen Keogh, Jordan MacIntosh, Kyle Rubisch and Andrew Suitor.

Sunday Sept. 30
