Colgate Tops Bryant, 7-4 in Opener

HAMILTON -- Ryan Walsh scored a goal in his 32nd straight game and Alex Kinnealey off set one of the nation's top faceoff specialists as Colgate defeated Bryant 7-4 here Saturday.

The game opened in 15 degree temperatures but it was Colgate that turned on the heat with four second-quarter goals to spark a 5-2 lead at intermission. That proved to be enough as the Raiders' defense held Bryant, an NCAA tournament team last year, to just four goals on 27 shots.

Walsh scored his 14th career hat trick, picking up goals in the final three periods. Eric Footeadded two goals, with Kevin Adams andKevin Boyle picking up one apiece. Brendon McCann helped with two assists.

Brandon Burke drew the starting assignment in his collegiate debut and responded with nine saves and two ground balls.

Colgate plays again next Saturday, hosting Vermont in a 1 p.m. start at Andy Kerr Stadium.
