In-Game Blog: No. 1 Duke Visits No. 2 Maryland

from Staff Reports | Twitter

For the second straight week, the Maryland Terrapins played a huge Atlantic Coast Conference foe, and for the second straight week, John Tillman's crew came away victorious as the Terps topped No. 1 Duke, 10-6, a result that will presumably vault them to the top of the Lacrosse Magazine rankings on Monday.

Read Gary Lambrecht's in-game blog replay from the action to the right, and we'll have more reaction from this one coming up later.

Duke Game Notes/Preview

Last weekend, Maryland played Syracuse in the opening of a double-header that included a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown (DIII top pair Stevenson and RIT played after Maryland's 16-8 victory over the host Orange at the Carrier Dome).

This week, they get to play in one, hosting the top-ranked Duke Blue Devils in what will be the final ACC regular-season game played between the programs due to Maryland's scheduled departure for the Big 10 next season.

Duke comes in with a perfect 4-0 record so far on the season with wins over Jacksonville, Denver, Penn and Stony Brook out of the gate - scoring nearly 14 goals a game with Jordan Wolf (10G, 9A) leading offensively and Brendan Fowler doing his usual dominant thing (57-for-89) at the X.

Maryland has bested Mount St. Mary's and UMBC in addition to Syracuse, with freshman Matt Rambo (9G, 3A) and senior Mike Chanenchuk (7, 4) anchoring the offense and Charlie Raffa dominating at the face-off himself with a 67% mark thus far.

These teams have played 81 times, with Maryland holding a 61-20 historical edge including last year's regular-season 16-7 Terrapins victory.
