Vermont Edges Wagner in Double Overtime

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Ian MacKay scored with 1:45 remaining in the second overtime to lift Vermont to an 11-10 victory over Wagner in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday. With the win, Vermont improves to 4-3 while Wagner falls to 1-4 on the season.

The Seahawks sent the game into overtime after scoring with just one second remaining in regulation, as David DeCirce found the back of the net off a feed from Patrick McMenamin.

Patrick Clark led the way for Vermont with a game-high five points on three goals and two assists. MacKay added three goals, including the game winner, and Blake Pendleton netted a pair of scores to help pace the Catamounts. Hayden Jenkins collected the helper on the game-winner for the first assist of his career.

Wagner tallied the game's first two goals before Vermont got on the board with 1:55 to play in the first quarter. MacKay tallied his first of the game to cut the deficit to 2-1. Adam Geiger and William McMenamin each added a goal in the final minute to send the Seahawks into the second stanza with a 4-1 lead.

McMenamin tallied another score to begin the second period before Clark and Pendleton picked up a goal apiece to cut Wagner's lead to 5-3 with 9:09 to play in the half. The Seahawks tallied a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the half to take a four-goal advantage into halftime.

Vermont outscored Wagner 4-1 in the third period behind scores from four different players. After a Wagner goal just under two minutes into the quarter, Pendleton, Clark and Nick Bartlett netted a goal each to cut the deficit to 8-6 with 4:05 to play. MacKay notched his second of the game with just 18 seconds left in the period to pull Vermont within one score.

Michael Clarke and Wagner's Matthew Shute exchanged goals in the first two minutes of the final period before Vermont scored two straight. Graham Horvath and Clark picked up the goals for UVM, as the Catamounts took a 10-9 lead with 3:50 to play.

With just one second showing on the clock and Wagner trailing by one, DeCirce tallied the game-tying goal to send the game into extra time.

After a scoreless first overtime period, MacKay scored off an assist from Jenkins with just under two minutes to play in double overtime to lift the Catamounts to an 11-10 victory.

Justin Rosenberg earned the win in net for Vermont with a 15-save performance. Nicholas Gibaldi took the loss for Wagner despite making 18 saves.

UVM Men's Lacrosse Alumni Weekend
The Catamount men's lacrosse coaches would like to invite all alumni back for the weekend of April 11. On Friday, the coaches will be at the Upperdeck Pub from 5-7:30pm for a Meet & Greet with the alumni. Saturday, April 12 will start with an Alumni Information Session that will include a locker room tour, a state of the program, recruiting updates, film breakdown information and more. The current team will take on Binghamton at 1:30pm, with former Catamount John Scotnicki '88 being honored in a pregame ceremony. Alumni are invited to attend a postgame gathering at Nectar's from 4:30-7pm. A room block is being held at The Best Western Windjammer Inn until March 24.
