Duke's Myles Jones Named Epoch/LM Player of the Week
Duke desperately needed a win, and the Blue Devils needed a Tewaaraton-caliber performance from senior midfielder Myles Jones to get it. Jones tied his career high with five goals and eight points in Duke's 15-6 victory over Loyola to earn Epoch/Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week honors.
Jones, the No. 1 overall pick in the Major League Lacrosse collegiate draft (Atlanta Blaze), looked like the dominant force he has become the last three years. He made it look easy — changing hands and directions, drawing double teams and finding open shooters, occasionally using a shoulder to create space easily, ripping shots from unpredictable angles. The Blue Devils needed him especially after back-to-back upset losses against Harvard and Richmond.
"I took advantage of a lot of space," said Jones, who now has 15 goals and 16 assists. "There's always a sense of urgency when you're a senior, you've lost two games [in a row] and you look at the schedule and see how many games are left. Our backs were against the wall."
