Susko's Fiver Boosts Adelphi over the 'Mack

from press release

- The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team hosted the Warriors of Merrimack College this afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up. The Panthers overcame a Merrimack five-goal third period to hold on for the 10-8 victory. Adelphi improves to 8-1 and 4-0 in the NE-10, while Merrimack drops to 7-3 and 4-2.

For the Panthers, graduate student Tommy Susko had a big game with five goals and one assist, while junior Shane Wynn added three goals and one assist. Junior Eric Janssen set aside 16 shots for the Panthers eighth victory of the season.

The Panthers scored the only two goals of the first period, both coming from Wynn. Wynn would then open up the second period for his third goal of the game with the assist coming from classmate Joe Vitale. Sophomore Michael Rossi would then find Vitale for the man-up goal, giving Adelphi a 4-0 lead.

A little less than three minutes after Vitale's tally, Wynn found Susko, pushing Adelphi's advantage to five goals. The Warriors would close the first half with two late goals from Corey Lunney and Greg Melaugh, respectively.

Merrimack came out firing out of the half, finding the back of the net four times. Three of the four goals were unassisted and Lunney scored half of them. Susko would end the Warriors run with a goal of his own, evening the score at 6-6.

Susko would then tie the score at 7-7 after another Merrimack goal, which was then followed up by his fourth goal of the game at the end of the third period, putting the Panthers up 8-7.

Junior Danny Blau would open the final period with an even strength score, giving Adelphi a two-goal cushion. Susko added the 10th Panther goal when he scored on a scramble in front of the net. Melaugh would add a late goal for Merrimack but it wasn't enough as Adelphi held on for the two-goal victory.

For the Warriors, Lunney provided three goals, while Melaugh added two goals and one assist. Connor Reagan recorded seven saves in the loss.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, April 12, when they host Assumption College on Motamed Field at 3:00 p.m.
