Plompen's Five-Spot Paces No. 3 C.W. Post

– Junior attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) recorded eight points with five goals and three assists to lead the No. 3 C.W. Post men's lacrosse team over Lake Erie College, 15-5, in an East Coast Conference contest Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.

C.W. Post improves to 13-1 overall and 6-1 in the ECC while Lake Erie slips to 4-6 overall and 1-5 in conference action.

The Pioneers jumped to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter that included a hat trick from Plompen as well as goals from senior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) and senior attacker Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.). The Storm tied the score at one in the quarter when Joeyjohn French found the net on a pass from Keegan Bal.

The second quarter was busy for both teams as they combined to score eight goals, where the Pioneers had a 5-3 edge. The Storm scored the first three goals of the quarter – all from Keegan Bal – to cut the lead to 5-4. The Pioneers answered by scoring five unanswered goals through the remainder of the half to lead 10-4 at the break. Senior attacker Jimmy Johnston (Farmingville, N.Y.) and Plompen each scored a pair in the series and sophomore attacker Justin Patterson (Corning, N.Y.) also tallied a goal.

Patterson and Johnston each went on to score a goal in the third quarter to boost the lead to 12-4. Lake Erie's Matt Missel scored his first collegiate goal with 1:44 to play in the third.

The Pioneers closed out the game with three unanswered goals in the fourth from Coric, Messina and Patterson.

C.W. Post finished the game outshooting Lake Erie, 38-22, and held a 50-41 advantage in ground balls. The Pioneers were 3-for-4 on extra-man opportunities while the Storm were 2-for-3.

Coric completed the game with two goals and four assists while Patterson and Johnston each had a hat trick. Messina had two goals and an assist in the game.

Senior goalkeeper Mike Messina (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made seven stops in goal to capture his 13th win of the season between the pipes.

Bal led Lake Erie's offense with three goals and an assist while Kyle Larson tallied two assists.

Ian Wolfe made two saves in goal and teammate Alexander Wisner came into the game and stopped five shots.

C.W. Post is back in action on Saturday, April 23 when it travels to play at Mercy College for a 1 p.m. start.
