C.W. Post Wraps Up Third ECC Crown

– The No. 2 C.W. Post men's lacrosse team captured its third straight East Coast Conference title with a 13-2 win over Molloy College Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.

C.W. Post improves to 16-1 overall and 9-1 in the ECC and will await Sunday's announcement of seedings in the upcoming NCAA tournament. Molloy ends its season with an overall record of 5-10 and 3-7 in the ECC. The win total matched a program record set in 2010 by the national championship team.

Senior attacker Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.) led the Pioneers on the offense with seven points, scoring a game-high five goals with two assists.

C.W. Post took a 4-0 lead in the first quarter courtesy of a pair of goals from junior attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) as well as tallies from senior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) and Coric.

The Pioneers added to their lead with three more unanswered goals in the second from Plompen, junior midfielder Brad DeSouza (Trumbull, Conn.) and Coric.

Molloy got on the board with 1:10 left to play in the half when Pat Fanning found an opening and hit the net.

Each team had a goal in the third as Coric scored for the Pioneers and Kenny Lutz notched a goal for the Lions.

The fourth quarter belonged to C.W. Post as Coric scored his fourth and fifth goals of the game and junior attacker Tom Giordano (Garden City, N.Y.) scored his third goal of the season followed by a goal from senior midfielder Tim Russo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) – his second of the season.

Senior midfielder Ronnie Irving (Glen Head, N.Y.) was 3-for-5 on face-offs before turning duties over to junior James Kozlakowski (Lynbrook, N.Y.), who was 9-for-12.

Senior goalkeeper Mike Giordano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made five saves in goal to win his 16th game in goal this season.

Molloy goalkeeper Glenn Greubel made 10 saves in net.

The Pioneers outshot the Lions, 40-11, in the game and held a 41-27 advantage in ground balls.

Prior to the start of season, head coach John Jez and the Pioneers honored its 20 graduating seniors: Brian Campbell (Massapequa, N.Y.), Nick Foote (Trumbull, Conn.), Nick Watson (Trumbull, Conn.), John Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.), Dan DaCosta (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), Vito Minerva (Nesconset, N.Y.), Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.), Jimmy Johnston (Farmingville, N.Y.), Sean Baum (Merrick, N.Y.), Nick Lacagnina (Farmingville, N.Y.), Gavin McCormack (Long Beach, N.Y.), Phil Bardsley (Stamford, Conn.), Ronnie Irving (Glen Head, N.Y.), John Wood (Marblehead, Mass.), Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Erik Boyd (Coram, N.Y.), Mike Giordano (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Kyle Riegel (Bethpage, N.Y.), Pete Michaleas (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and Tim Russo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).
