Kingsbury Named Head Coach at St. Mike's

from press release

– Brian Kingsbury, a former student-athlete at the University of Maryland and most recently the men's lacrosse head coach at Castleton State College, has been named the head coach of the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse program, it was announced on Tuesday. Kingsbury replaces Paul Schimoler, who stepped down last month following eight seasons at the helm of the Purple Knights to become the men's lacrosse assistant coach at Dartmouth College.

"I am truly excited and thankful to join the Saint Michael's community and its men's lacrosse program," said Kingsbury. "Saint Michael's is a great place to be, and I am excited to help the student-athletes grow into adults. I hope to build upon the successes that Coach Schimoler has brought to Saint Michael's over the last eight years."

Kingsbury spent the past year as the men's lacrosse head coach at Castleton (Vt.) State College. He guided the NCAA Division III program to one of its finest ever, as the Spartans won the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Kingsbury was named the NAC's Coach of the Year in 2011, as he coached the league's Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, and helped Castleton earn the conference's Sportsmanship Award.

Before taking the helm at Castleton, Kingsbury was an assistant coach for the Spartans' men's lacrosse program in 2009 and 2010. He aided with all aspects of the program during his time as an assistant coach, and helped Castleton earn its first NCAA Tournament berth in 2010. He joined Castleton after one season as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I University of Massachusetts, where he was primarily responsible for video editing, scouting and faceoff strategy.

Kingsbury was a three-year member of the University of Maryland's national power men's lacrosse program, where he graduated in 2001 with a bachelor of science degree in sports management. He was a defensive midfielder for Maryland, and during his career the Terrapins made two appearances in the NCAA Division I Quarterfinals, and two appearances in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. He was named the men's lacrosse program's Unsung Hero as a senior in 2001, and also earned ACC honor roll honors. He transferred to Maryland after a year at Hofstra University, where he was a standout for the men's lacrosse program as a freshman.

Kingsbury earned his Master's degree in education from Castleton in 2010, and was named to the Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society that same year.

The Saint Michael's men's lacrosse program went 10-6 in 2011, matching the program record for victories in a season. The program earned a top-10 national ranking during the season, and finished the year undefeated against New England opponents and the top-ranked team in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II Poll.
