Kelly, Le Moyne Take Care of Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) recorded five points to lead the top-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 13-8 win over 15th-ranked Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Drexel University's Vidas Field.

The Griffins took their first of two leads in the game just 1:08 into the contest as Michael Melychenko netted an unassisted goal.

Le Moyne answered with back-to-back goals in a span of 2:38. Junior midfielder Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal with 12:40 remaining. Le Moyne took a 2-1 lead with 10:02 left as freshman attackman Alex O'Brien (Hanson, Mass./Boston College High) finished off a feed from junior midfielder Alec Westerhoff (Lagrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township/Bridgton Academy) in transition.

Chestnut Hill regained the lead with a pair of goals in the first 3:26 of the second quarter. Melnychenko tallied an extra-man goal just 31 seconds into the quarter off a pass from Alec Dambach. The Griffins took a 3-2 advantage with 11:34 remaining as Tanner Fisher scored off a feed from Mark Winkelspecht.

The Dolphins answered back with five goals in a span of 2:08 to take control of the game. Corapi evened the score for the second time with another unassisted marker with 6:14 to play in the half. Just 47 seconds later, Kelly put the Dolphins in front for good after taking a pass from Corapi. After winning the ensuing faceoff, senior midfielder Cameron Fedish (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) found the back of the net off a give-and-go with Kelly. Sophomore attackman Mike Jenkins (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) scored twice in a span of 37 seconds to double the lead with 4:08 left in the half.

The teams traded goals in the third quarter, resulting in a 12-7 lead for the Dolphins. Melnychenko started the scoring with an extra-man goal off a pass from Michael Plaia with 13:01 remaining. Kelly answered back with 10:30 to go after receiving a pass from senior midfielder Andrew Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn). Following an unassisted goal by Dambach with 8:14 left, senior attackman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) found the back of the net with 7:26 left off a pass from Jenkins. Kelly then added a pair of goals after Michael Landau and Melnychenko scored for the Griffins. His first of the span came with 2:14 left off a pass from Jenkins, while the second was off a pass from senior midfielder Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Needham/Bridgton Academy) with 45 seconds left in the quarter. Chadderdon completed the scoring in the quarter with an unassisted marker with 13 seconds left.

Following 10 minutes of scoreless action in the fourth quarter, each team netted one goal. Chestnut Hill's goal came in an extra-man opportunity off the stick of Landau with 4:56 to go following a pass by Fisher. Bumpus closed out the game's scoring with unassisted tally with 2:09 left.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Romagnoli (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/Syracuse) registered 11 saves, including six on nine shots in the first half, to record the win between the pipes. Joseph Donnelly posted 12 saves in the loss for the Griffins.

Le Moyne (2-0) returns to action on Saturday against fifth-ranked Limestone College at 3:00 p.m. at Georgetown Prep in North Bethesda, Maryland.
