No. 3 Stevenson Cruises to 10th Straight Win

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University men's lacrosse team scored seven first quarter goals and led 13-2 at halftime as the No. 3-ranked Mustangs won their 10th consecutive regular season game and seventh-straight at home with a dominating 19-3 victory over Wooster Tuesday at the Caves Athletics Complex.

With the win, Stevenson (7-0) set a new school record for most consecutive wins to start a season, breaking the previous mark of six set by the 2007 squad.

Since the Gettysburg game, the Mustangs have outscored its opponents 81-24 over five games while outshooting them 260-126.

In addition to adding to their winning streak, Stevenson went 15-for-15 on clears against the Fighting Scots, extending its streak of successful clears to 36, dating back to the fourth quarter of their game at St. Mary's (Md.) on March 11.

The MUstangs were succesful on its final four clears against the Seahawks before going 17-for-17 versus Mary Washington.

Sophomore Jimmy Dailey (Westminster/Winter Mills) totaled a game-high six points for the second-straight game on three goals and three assists. The team leader in assists with 17, he has totaled at least three in five of his seven games this season.

Senior Greg Furshman (Miami, Fla./Towson) scored a season-high four goals while winning 9-of-10 faceoffs and collecting eight ground balls. Junior Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson) joined Dailey with his team-leading third hat trick of the season while adding an assist.

Alex Mies gave Wooster (3-3) its only lead of the game with his ninth goal of the season with 9:33 remaining in the first quarter, but the advantage would last for only 13 seconds until Furshman found the back of the net for the ninth time this year.

Furshman's goal marked the first of 13 consecutive for Stevenson who built a 13-1 lead before the Fighting Scots would score again with just 40 seconds left in the first half.

Furshman scored three of his goals during the run while Dailey added two goals and three assists. Ford also had two goals while reigning CAC Player of the Week, junior Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger), had two assists.

Leading by 11 at the half, Dailey and Ford would score the only two goals of the third quarter before the Mustangs netted the first four of the fourth to run its lead to 17.

Mark Weschler scored a man-up goal for Wooster, his team-leading 15th of the season, with only 43 seconds remaining in the game.

Stevenson held a huge advantage in shots, 57-18, and ground balls, 48-25, while winning 17-of-26 faceoffs.

All 58 players in uniform played for the Mustangs, including sophomore Ryan Bragg (Downington, Pa./Downingtown West), freshman Brandon Capaletti (Baltimore/Curley) and sophomore Vince Delle Grotti (Trenton, N.J./Notre Dame) who all scored their first goals of the season.

Sophomore Adam Pupo (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) also picked up his first point of the year with the assist on Delle Grotti's goal with 1:58 remaining in the game.

Junior Geoff Hebert (Lutherville/Dulaney) remained unbeaten in seven career starts in goal, finishing with six saves.

Stevenson continues its four-game homestand on Saturday when it hosts a non-conference contest with No. 16 Lynchburg. Game time is at 2:30 p.m. Live video and live stats are available at
