Babson Men Have New Coach in Gorman

from press release

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Babson College Athletics Department has named Brendan Gorman as its new head men's lacrosse coach, Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur announced Thursday. The ninth coach in the 35-year history of the program, Gorman will also serve as the department's Strength and Conditioning Coach.

A 2004 graduate of Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, Gorman comes to Babson after spending four years as the head assistant coach at the Rochester Institute of Technology. There, he served as the Tigers' defensive coordinator in 2006 and 2007 and their offensive coordinator in each of the last two seasons. In addition to recruiting and coaching numerous All-Conference and All-American athletes as well as several Academic All-Americans, he also served as the assistant supervisor of RIT's varsity weight room.

A four-year letter-winner at Hartwick from 1999 to 2002, Gorman served as an assistant coach for the Hawks in 2003. He then spent a year as an assistant at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania before heading to RIT.

Along with his collegiate coaching experience, Gorman has worked at numerous lacrosse camps along the East Coast, including those at RIT, Brown University, and Navy, as well as camps overseas in England and Italy. He has served as a coach in the prestigious USILA Division III North/South All-Star Game, spoken at the National Lacrosse Coaches Convention, and spent five months as a starting attack and offensive coordinator for the Burside Lacrosse Club in Adelaide, Australia.

"I'd like to thank Josh MacArthur and Babson College for the opportunity to be a head coach at one of the top schools in the country," Gorman said. "I am extremely excited to work with the Babson Athletics Department, and I hope I can help the lacrosse program get to the next level."

"We are thrilled to have Brendan take over as our men's lacrosse coach," MacArthur added. "We had an extremely qualified applicant pool for our position. Brendan is one of the rising stars in the lacrosse coaching community, and his coaching background and philosophy are a great match for our program. I feel fortunate to have someone of Brendan's abilities lead our men's lacrosse student-athletes."
