Maritime College Men Collect Toys for Tots

from press release

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime men's lacrosse team held its annual Toys For Tots Fall Classic this past Sunday, Oct. 17, at Reinhart Field where the squad welcomed Division-II Colleges Assumption and Mercy. The event was a great success, as the Privateers and those in attendance helped to collect 153 toys for the less fortunate children in the community.

The day's events also included a free youth clinic run by the coaches and players of the Maritime men's lacrosse program. Over 20 kids participated in the clinic and enhanced their abilities in the sport, while enjoying the time on the field with the coaches and student-athletes.

The round-robin of scrimmages began at noon, with the Privateers taking on Assumption College. Later in the day, Maritime took on Mercy College. Score was not kept during any of the afternoon's contests, but the Privateers played well against the D-II Greyhounds and Mavericks.

Over 50 student-athletes were on the sidelines for Maritime, with a number of reserves who are vying for spots on the final roster. The Privateer coaching staff was impressed by the squad's performance on the day.

The weather also helped make for a perfect day, as the event wound up being a complete success.
