from press release
ASHLAND, Va. – Two members of the Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team were honored on the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State team that was recently announced.
First-year attackman Cameron Dabir (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Culver Academy) was selected as the VaSID Rookie of the Year, while junior defenseman Joe LaSala (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) was honored on the first team.
Dabir claimed the top rookie award after finishing his initial season with the Blue & White ranked third on the team with 45 points. He scored 27 goals and assisted on 18 others while also collecting 31 ground balls. His point total was the best for any first year player in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Additionally, Dabir was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year.
LaSala was named to the team despite missing the final six games of the 2012 with a knee injury. He played in the first 13 games of the year and led the team with 31 caused turnovers. LaSala also scooped up 22 ground balls as the Generals defense posted an 8.92 goals-against average, good for third in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. He was named First Team All-ODAC for the second straight year, in addition to receiving the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award for men's lacrosse. LaSala also received USILA Honorable Mention All-America honors for the second consecutive year.
Lynchburg College took the other VaSID major awards, with defenseman Joe Lisicky receiving the Player of the Year Award and Steve Koudelka claiming the Coach of the Year Award.
Washington and Lee concluded the 2012 season with a 10-9 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the ODAC. The Generals earned the No. 6 seed for the conference tournament, knocking off the No. 2 (Roanoke) and No. 3 (Hampden-Sydney) seeds before falling to top-seeded Lynchburg in the championship game.
