Sowell to Be Inducted Into Potomac Chapter HOF

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Former Washington College All-American Rick Sowell '86will be inducted into the US Lacrosse Potomac Chapter Hall of Fame Saturday, February 2nd. Sowell is currently in his second year as the head men's lacrosse coach at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Sowell was named a first-team All-American and the Division III National Midfielder of the Year during his senior season at Washington College in 1985. He was also named a North-Sourth Senior All-Star and was chosen as a 1984 third-team All-American. Sowell helped lead the Shoremen to back-to-back NCAA Division III Championship game appearances in 1984 and 1985.
Sowell continued his playing career as professional, earning all-pro honors three times with the Baltimore Thunder. He enjoyed tremendous success as a high school head coach at St. Albans School in Washington, DC, and as a collegiate head coach at Dartmouth, St. John's, Stony Brook, and now Navy. In 2012, he guided the Midshipmen to their first .500 record in three years.
Sowell was inducted into the Washington College Hall of Fame in 2000. The US Lacrosse Potomac Chapter Hall of Fame induction will be held February 2nd at the University Club of Washington, DC.
