Big Third Quarter Sends No. 1 RIT Past No. 15 Ithaca

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The #1 RIT (2-0) men's lacrosse team scored five third-period goals en route to a 15-11 win over #15 Ithaca College (1-1) in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field Saturday afternoon. Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin), Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor) and Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) each scored three goals to pace the Tigers.

RIT held a slight 43-41 shot advantage and a 36-31 ground ball edge. The Tigers were 20-of-24 on clearing attempts, while the Bombers went 24-of-28. The Tigers did not have a man-up opportunity, while Ithaca went 3-for-6 on man-up chances.

Krzyston led RIT with five points on three goals and two assists. Wisman and Aquin each had three goals, while Casey Jackson (Victoria, BC/Claremont) had three points on a goal and two assists. Mac Keehfus (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), Matt Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry), Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy), Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) and JD Hall (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe) each scored a goal.

Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) won 16-of-26 face-offs and led RIT with 10 ground balls. Hossack caused three turnovers and had five ground balls, while Jay Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) had five caused turnovers. Pat Johnston (Long Beach, CA/Norwell (MA)) picked up his second win of the season, making 14 saves in net for RIT.

Pat Slawta led Ithaca with six goals. Jake Long scored three goals and added an assist, while Michael Walker scored a goal. Brandon Henne won 8-of-19 face-offs for the Bombers with three ground balls. Scott Sidnam took the loss in net for Ithaca, making 11 saves.

Each team scored five goals in the first quarter. Krzyston scored two of RIT's first five goals, while Wisman, Wallace and Lee scored the other goals. Slawta scored three of Ithaca's first five, including the game's first tally at 12:29 on a nice drive around the RIT net, beating Johnston clean.

Both teams scored just once in the second quarter, including a goal from Hossack with 20 seconds to play in the quarter, tying the score at 6-6.

The Tigers opened the third quarter tallying the first four goals, taking a 10-6 lead on Casey Jackson (Victoria, BC/Claremont)'s fifth goal of the season off a feed from Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) with 3:04 to play.

Long broke the run for Ithaca with his unassisted goal with 1:41 to play in the third, cutting RIT's lead to 10-7.

Freshman JD Hall (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe)'s first collegiate goal with 1:30 to play in the third gave the Tigers an 11-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Goals by Wisman and Aquin to open the scoring in the fourth quarter gave RIT its largest lead of the game at 13-7.

Keehfus and Krzyston each scored goals in the fourth quarter for the Tigers. Slawta and John Janusziewicz scored late goals for Ithaca to make it a 15-11 final.

RIT has now won 21 straight home contests, dating back to March 28, 2012 when the Tigers lost to SUNY Cortland 8-7. The Tigers will host SUNY Brockport on Wednesday, March 5 at 4 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
