Ryan Powell Added to Cazenovia Staff as OC

from press release

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - A four-time All-American at Syracuse University, two-time Major League Lacrosse most valuable player, and captain of the 2010 gold medal winning USA team, Ryan Powell has returned to Central New York to serve as the offensive coordinator for the Cazenovia College Wildcats men's lacrosse team. Powell joins the Wildcats and head coach Kevin Johnson for the most anticipated season in Cazenovia College lacrosse history.

A West Carthage, NY native, Coach Powell played at Syracuse University from 1997-2000. While at Syracuse, his greatest accomplishment came his senior season after being named team captain of the 2000 NCAA Division I Champion Syracuse Orange. That same season Powell earned the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award as the Division I National Player of the Year, and Lt. Col. Jack Turnbull Award as the Division I National Attackman of the Year.

The 2014 season marks the second time he will work the sidelines for an NCAA program. In 2004, Powell served as an assistant coach for the Division I National Champion Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team.

"Coach Johnson and I have a long standing friendship and I'm excited to join his staff," says Powell. "This is a great fit for me as Cazenovia College is very close to my home and, more importantly, they are an up and coming program at the Division III level with major upside."

Powell spent eight years living in Portland, Oregon before returning home to CNY nearly a year ago. While living in Portland, he started and continues to serve as the president of Rhino Lacrosse – a nationally known lacrosse company that provides players the opportunity to improve through private lessons, leagues, travel select teams, camps and tournaments.

The Cazenovia College Wildcats are off to a 3-1 start this season behind the tutelage of Coach Johnson and his staff. "Coach Johnson has brought in some very talented freshman to join an already solid group of upperclassmen," says Powell. "I am very excited for the 2014 season!"
