BALTIMORE — The team with 70 consecutive wins — the longest streak in men's collegiate lacrosse history — is tops in Lacrosse Magazine's 2014 NJCAA preseason rankings.

Onondaga Community College has won five straight NJCAA men's championships and seven in the last eight seasons. When the Lazers defeated Nassau CC 15-11 in the championship game last May, they finished 18-0, and the victory was their 70th in a row, one more than the previous record for longest all-time streak held by NCAA Division III Salisbury.

Additionally, Lacrosse Magazine has named Onondaga sophomore goalie Warren Hill its NJCAA men's preseason player of the year.

Hill was the NJCAA defensive player of the year last season, posting a 75 percent save percentage and 5.30 goals against average, both tops in the junior college ranks. Hill was also named to the All-World team at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) under-19 World Championship as a member of the Iroquois' bronze-medal team two summers ago in Finland.

The Lazers, led by coach Chuck Wilbur, also bring back first-team All-American midfielder Vaughn Harris. He notched 47 points as a freshman, fifth best on the team, with 30 goals and 17 assists. Also returning is second-team All-American midfielder Tim Barber, who had 23 goals and nine assists in 2013. Onondaga won its games by an average score of 25-5, and topped 30 goals four times.

National runner-up and Region 15 champion Nassau CC, which finished 13-4 a year ago, is ranked second by LM, followed by national semifinalist and 2013 Region 20 champion CCBC Essex. Genesee CC is fourth and Harford CC rounds out the top five.

The rankings were compiled by Lacrosse Magazine staff after consultation with college coaches.

Lacrosse Magazine will continue its 2014 college lacrosse preview throughout January and into February, with team-by-team breakdowns of the top teams in NCAA Division I, II and III, and NJCAA and club men's and women's lacrosse.
