Nike/LM MCLA Division I Preseason Top 20

by Lacrosse Magazine Staff | LaxMagazine.com | Twitter

The MCLA Division I saw a first-time champion in 2015 with the emergence of Grand Canyon as the cream of the crop. While the Lopes certainly have some work to do, especially with the graduation of Carson Barton, who was selected in the NLL draft, the cupboard is anything but bare in Phoenix. With Dean Fairall leading a stacked roster that expects to bring the title back to the desert, Grand Canyon enters 2016 as the No. 1 ranked team in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top 20.

But GCU will be challenged just to make it out of its own conference. Arizona State, Chapman, San Diego State, Arizona and UC Santa Barbara are all eyeing the Lopes' prize. And that's just the SLC. Colorado has made it to three consecutive title games and are expected to reprise that role as the top dog in the RMLC. Will it be another Grand Canyon-Colorado matchup at the MCLA National Championship, or is Stanford, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Oregon State, BYU or Boston College ready to grab the brass ring in the MCLA's 20th season?

Preseason Player of the Year

Dean Fairall, Grand Canyon, Sr. A

The Canadian is part of a talent-laded Lopes roster. He posted 91 points on 54 goals and 37 assists a season ago, averaging 5.35 points per game. But filling the shoes of the departed Carson Barton – now in the NLL – is a tall task.
