Lousiville Thumps Lafayette, 18-3

from press release

Ten different Cardinals scored as the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team beat visting Lafayette 18-3 Wednesday afternoon at U of L Lacrosse Stadium.

Louisville's Liz Lovejoy led the onslaught with four goals. Bergan Foley and Emily Dashiell each had three. Tara Restly added an assist to her two goals and Katie Oliverio had two assists and a goal. Lianne Bobal, Janaye Dzikewich, Ruby Devine, Sammy Allen and Meghan Ryan each posted a goal, with all but Ryan adding an assist to the total as well.

The Cardinal led 12-1 in the first half, scoring the first nine goals before Lafayette got on the board at 11:32. The Cardinals outshot the Leopards 18-3 in the first half and committed just seven turnovers to Lafayette's 13.

"It was a great half," said U of L head coach Kellie Young. "Our defense was a bit passive with the big lead and we will have to light a fire under them for our next game. Having 10 different kids score puts us in a good position."

With the clock running, U of L didn't let up in the second half scoring the first four goals of the half before Lafayette scored with 12:03 remaining. Dashiell and Lovejoy each netted a goal before Lafayette snuck one in with 1:07 remaining.

"I saw a little slippage in the second half," said Young. "We will have to concentrate on playing Louisville style lacrosse for 60 minutes. It was a good win for us."

Goalie Jen Heup had four saves and Kendra Burawski got in midway through the second half to mop up and nabbed a pair of saves herself. Janaye Dzikewich scooped a team-high five ground balls and caused three turnovers. Kelsey McDowell had four ground balls and three caused turnovers to help the Cardinal defense.

U of L will face Atlantic Coast Conference foe Virginia Tech this Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m. at U of L Lacrosse Stadium.

"Virginia Tech is a solid team with dynamic attackers," said Young. "They will be fired up to play us because we beat them last year on a last second goal by Kelsey McDowell and they will be focused on getting us back. Plus they are coming off an ACC win over Boston College last weekend."
