Marist Snaps Two-Game Skid Against Bucknell

LEWISBURG, PA. - Senior midfielder Cristin Begley (Brookville, Md.) paced the Marist offense with four goals and an assist as the Red Foxes snapped a two-game losing streak at Bucknell on Tuesday afternoon. The final score was 14-9. Marist scored seven of eight goals over a seven and a half minute stretch in the first half to take a 9-5 lead into the locker room and did not trail throughout the entire second half.

Marist had four players contribute two goals to help the offense. Juniors Lauren Ciccarello (Wantagh, N.Y.), and Erin Wilson (Ida, Mich.), freshman Kelly Condon (Abington, Pa.), and senior Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) all notched two markers in the contest. Garland added six draw controls to the attack, just two fewer than Bucknell had as a team on the day. The Red Foxes possessed 16 draw controls to the Bisons' eight.

Wilson scored the first goal of the game to give Marist an early lead, before Julia Braun and Carol Donohue scored consecutive goals to give Bucknell a 2-1 lead with 19:12 to play in the first half.

Begley would score the next four goals for Marist over a span of 90 seconds to give the Red Foxes a three goal lead. Begley finished the day with six shots on goal and went 1-1 on free position shots. After the Bison scored a goal to make the score 5-3, the Red Foxes would rattle off three more goals. Condon kicked off the run after she took a feed from senior Carolyn Sumcizk (Syosset, N.Y.). Fifty-four seconds later, Ciccarello scored of a Begley pass. Garland capped the run with her 43rd goal of the season.

Condon finished the game with two goals, an assist and a caused turnover on the day. She went 1-1 on free position shots. Sumcizk led the team in caused turnovers with two.

In the second half the Red Foxes and Bison traded goals at a 2-to-1 ratio. Bucknell scored the first marker of the half on a Bonnie Buechel tally. Marist responded with goals by Ciccarello and Condon to boost its lead to five goals.

After Buechel cut the lead to four, the Red Foxes would rebuild it to six with goals by freshman Shannon Haas (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Wilson. Haas assisted on Wilson's goal which found the back of the net with 11:07 to play in the second stanza.

Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Thoms (Newark, N.Y.) earned her eighth win of the season in goal. She made 10 saves on the afternoon, as she played the entire 60 minutes.

Marist (8-4) will return to action on Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes will face-off with Niagara in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tilt. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
