Syracuse's Tumolo Plays for National Team

from press release

ORLANDO, Fla. - Michelle Tumolo (Mullica Hill, N.J.), a sophomore on the Syracuse University women's lacrosse team, competed this past weekend at the 2011 Champion Challenge at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Buena Vista, Fla. Tumolo competed as a member of the U.S. senior national team.

The sixth annual Champion Challenge featured the U.S. men's and women's national lacrosse teams, U.S. women's under-19 national lacrosse team, and five collegiate teams. The U.S. women's senior team played Maryland and Virginia on Sunday.

The team used a split squad Sunday, with the "blue" squad playing Virginia, while the rest of the team played against Maryland. Following the first pair of games, the "blue" squad played Maryland. Tumolo recorded a goal and two assists in the "blue" squad's 21-10 victory against Virginia. In its second game, Tumolo recorded another pair of assists as the "blue" squad defeated Maryland, 12-5.

Tumolo was one of only three sophomores to make the final roster of the U.S. women's lacrosse national team. Last season, she was Syracuse's third-leading scorer with 74 points and ranked second in assists with 37. Both totals are single-season bests for a freshman in program history. She also garnered All-Northeast Region Second Team and WomensLax.com All-Rookie Team honors for the 2010 season.
