Wood's Six Lead to Drexel Blowout Over Bucknell

from press release

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's lacrosse team dominated play in a 19-3 win against Bucknell. The Dragons outshot the Bison 44-14 and had 11 players score at least one goal. Drexel hasn't scored 19 goals in a single game since the 19-5 win over Long Island back in 2009.

The Dragons put pressure on the Bison early as Charlotte Wood and Alyse Maiden scored within the opening minute of the game. Bucknell's Julia Braun knocked in a free position goal and looked to create momentum for the Bison. Wood answered with an unassisted goal and started a five-goal rally as teammates Jaclyn Klunder, Kelli Joran, Alyse Maiden, and Katie Blazer put points on the board for Drexel. The Dragons were up by eight at the end of the first half and held on to the lead for the remainder of the game.

Junior Charlotte Wood tied her career high with six goals in the home opener at Vidas Field. Wood now has 18 goals on the season. Teammate Jacklyn Kunder led the team with four assists and scored twice against the Bucknell Bison.

On the defensive end, senior goalkeeper Whitney Johnson earned the win and registered three saves. Amanda Santandrea saw action in the entire second half and had a season high of six saves. Freshmen Amanda Norcini led the team in groundballs.

The Dragons return to action on Sunday, March 13 at 3:00 p.m. against Binghamton at Vidas Field.
