Second-Half Surge Sends UConn Past Bonnies

from press release

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team (2-3) cut a five goal deficit to just two before halftime, but Connecticut (6-3) answered with six straight goals to start the second half in a 17-9 Huskies' win at Canisius' Demske Sports Complex on Sunday.

UConn's M.E. Lapham registered six points on four goals and two assists as the Huskies pulled away for good with a string of goals in the first 14 minutes of the final stanza.

Lapham went to goal alone at 17:51 of the first half to give UConn a 6-1 lead after four unanswered scores.

Danielle Drabin, who tallied three goals and one assist, sparked the Bonnies' rally from there, finding the back of the net herself and assisting on an Erin Thomas goal at the 11:22 mark. SBU followed with goals from Lauren Michaels and Christine Hanley to cut the margin to 7-5 at the half before UConn's surge sealed the win.

Karly Kocis (0-3) was tagged with the loss between pipes. She made 10 saves.

St. Bonaventure returns to the field Tuesday at Niagara.

Hanley had a goal erased by crease violation … 14 yellow cards were issued … Kocis was lifted with 16:12 to go in favor of classmate Sara Schlagenhauf … Schlagenhauf was credited with three saves … Hanley's free position goal with 14:14 to go was on an empty net ... the game was originally schedule to take place at St. Bonaventure, but was moved due to unplayable field conditions following a snow storm.
