Tuck Paces Marist Win on Offense, Defense

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist College women's lacrosse team defeated the Saint Mary's Gaels 18-8 on Wednesday afternoon at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes were led by sophomore Amanda Tuck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) who recorded six points on the day, scoring five goals and one assist. Juniors Ariel Kramer (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Kelly Condon (Roslyn, Pa.) also added five points of their own for Marist. The win raises Marist's record to 6-9 on the season.

Marist opened the scoring with a goal from junior Jori Procaccini (Long Valley, N.J.) approximately three minutes into the game at 27:37. A Saint Mary's goal by Kassandra Lemons tied the score two minutes later. The Red Foxes then went on a 3-0 run to stretch the lead to 4-1 with goals from junior Shannon Haas (Farmingdale, N.Y.) at 24:34, Kramer at 22:13, and Tuck at 20:11. After the Gaels responded with a run of their own to tie the score mid way through the first half, Condon put the Red Foxes up for good with her first goal of the game at the 13:04 mark. The goal was the beginning of a 5-0 run to close the first half. Tuck and Condon scored less than a minute apart at the 9:03 and 8:26 marks, respectively, to put Marist up 7-4. Haas then added her 15th goal of the season at 4:57. Procaccini closed the first half scoring on her 31st goal of the season with 19 seconds remaining to give the Red Foxes a 9-4 lead heading to the locker rooms.

Marist outshot St. Mary's 21-8 and forced 16 Gael turnovers in the first half.

The Red Foxes began the second half on an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach. Kramer opened the scoring less than a minute in with a goal at 29:16. After Condon notched her 28th goal on the season at the 27:13 mark, Kramer scored back to back goals within 19 seconds for her 25th and 26th goals on the year at the 24:51 and 24:32 marks to give Marist a 13-4 lead. The run was capped off by two goals from Tuck at 22:02 and 16:47, and two by sophomore Ashley Miller (Montville, N.J.) at 14:48 and 13:20, putting Marist up by 13. In total, Marist went on a 13-0 run for 32 minutes from 13:04 in the first half to the 11:04 in the second half. After Saint Mary's went on a four goal run, Tuck capped the scoring with her fifth goal on the day and 15th on the season to give Marist an 18-8 victory.
Defensively, the Red Foxes were led by Tuck who picked up five ground balls and senior Erin Betsch (Port Washington, N.Y.) who recorded five draw controls in the match. Senior Jessica Guarino (Wantagh, N.Y.) picked up four ground balls and caused a team-high three turnovers. Kramer also picked up four ground balls for Marist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Casiano (South Windsor, Conn.) made eight saves on the afternoon.

For the game, Marist outshot St. Mary's 39-18 and controlled 17 draws to 10 for the Gaels. The Red Foxes were also 18 for 20 on clear attempts while St. Mary's was 17 of 25.

The Red Foxes will next travel to Siena in a game with huge MAAC implications as the winner will advance to the MAAC Tournament. The opening draw will take place Saturday at noon.
