Boston College Stomps Virginia Tech to Advance to ACC Semifinals

CARY, N.C. -- The No. 11-ranked and fourth-seeded Boston College women's lacrosse team defeated fifth-seeded Virginia Tech 17-3, Thursday in the first round of the ACC tournament. The 14-point victory was the largest margin of victory in the ACC tournament, with the previous record at 13. The victory also marks the first ACC tournament win for BC.

Six different Eagles scored two goals or more, with senior Kristin Igoe leading the way with five goals. Junior Brittany Wilton added three goals, while sophomore Brooke Blue, freshman Moira Barry, senior Hannah Alley and junior Ginny Gummersall scored two goals each. Junior Sam Taylor chipped in with one goal.

Boston College got on the board first, taking an early 2-0 lead and never looked back. An Igoe goal with 5:29 left in the half capped off five straight goals for the Eagles. Boston College had a 9-3 lead at the break.

Boston College came out of the break strong. Igoe scored the Eagle’s first three goals of the second half, with her third goal coming with 18:25 to play in the game. The Eagles played tough defense, getting a strong performance in goal from senior Sheila Serafino and senior defender Jill Rekart.

The Eagles will face No. 1 Maryland, Friday at 5:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship game on Sunday.
