Boston U Snaps Four-Game Skid and Tops Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Five different Terriers registered multi-point games, as the Boston University lacrosse team rolled to a 12-3 victory against Stony Brook at LaValle Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers (7-8, 3-2 AE) snapped their four-game losing streak with the win.

Sophomore Danielle Etrasco, who was named America East Player of the Game, paced BU with three goals and collected three ground balls, three draw controls and one caused turnover. Senior Rachel Collins, junior Molly Swain and freshman Elizabeth Morse tallied two markers each, while junior Catie Tilton added a pair of assists.

Freshman goalkeeper Christina Sheridan started for the Terriers and made six saves through the game's first 52:34 before sophomore Kim Elsworth played the remainder of the contest.

BU, which limited the Seawolves (4-10, 1-5 AE) to just 10 shots, held advantages in ground balls (19-10) and draw controls (10-7). The Terriers were 12-for-15 on clears and 4-for-7 on free-position shots, while Stony Brook finished 10-for-17 and 1-for-4, respectively.

BU jumped out to a 3-0 lead as it finished the half with a 7-1 advantage. Collins opened the scoring with a free-position goal with 22:31 left in the stanza before Etrasco connected on Tilton's pass to double the lead 4:21 later. Junior Annie Stookesberry tallied with 15:51 remaining to give BU a three-goal lead.

Stony Brook's Trish Molfetta tallied a free-position goal at 19:53 to cut the deficit to two tallies, but the Terriers ended the frame on a 4-0 run.

Collins notched her second free-position goal with 7:20 left, and senior Erica Baumgartner added a marker at 15:08. Swain then closed the half with two goals. She tallied with 3:14 remaining in the stanza to give BU a 6-1 lead and netted her second marker 47 seconds later.

Melissa Cook brought the Seawolves to within five goals when she tallied at 5:53 of the second stanza, but the Terriers responded with four straight markers.

Morse tallied twice, including the second on a free-position shot, in a 7:51 span to make it a 9-2 game. Senior Corcoran Downey extended the Terrier lead with 10:22 left, and Etrasco notched her second goal with 8:34 remaining.

Stony Brook's Tara Gerstacker tallied with 7:26 left before Etrasco connected less than a minute later to account for the 12-3 final.

The Terriers will close out the regular season next Saturday (April 30) when they visit Vermont. Opening draw is set at noon.
