Pyle Nets Seven Points in Princeton Win

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week junior Cassie Pyle had a seven-point game to lead the Princeton women's lacrosse team to an 18-10 win over Columbia on Wednesday, April 27 at Princeton Stadium.

Pyle recorded a career-best seven points on three goals and four assists in the final conference game of the season. Senior Lizzy Drumm had three goals and one assist, sophomore Sam Ellis and junior Barb Previ both had hat tricks and freshman Sarah Lloyd had one goal and two helpers. Senior goalie Erin Tochihara made 11 saves. Freshman Caroline Franke made her first career appearance for the final 2:50 and made one save on the final shot of the game.

The No. 15-ranked Tigers quickly grabbed a 5-0 lead less than nine minutes into the game. Pyle would score twice, while Drumm, junior Jaci Gassaway and sophomore Charlotte Davis would each find the back of the net.

Gabrielle Geronimos would score Columbia's first goal at 18:01.

Previ would record a natural hat trick with three straight goals to expand the Tigers' lead to 8-1.

The Lions would score twice in 20 seconds which would lead to a 5-2 Columbia run over the next six minutes. Olivia Mann and Kacie Johnson would each score twice and Taylor Gattinella would get her first of three. Charlotte Davis and Ellis would record goals for the Tigers, as Columbia made it a four-goal game, 10-6, with 5:20 left in the first half.

Senior Maisie Devine and Ellis each scored in the waning minutes to give Princeton the 12-6 lead at the half.

Ellis would complete her hat trick to start the second half, and Gassaway would get another goal 21 seconds later as the Tigers took a 14-6 lead at 25:43.

Gattinella put away Columbia's last goal for the next 10 minutes as Princeton scored three unanswered to keep the clock running. Drumm, Pyle and Lloyd each recorded goals.

Geronimos ended the running clock at 12:16. Teammates Gattinella and Mann made sure the 10-goal rule wouldn't go back into effect as they both scored to make it a 17-10 game with 2:50 left.

Columbia called a timeout and Princeton replaced Tochihara with Franke. Twelve seconds later Drumm would score her third goal of the night after Previ won the draw control.

Franke would get her first test with just seconds to play on a Mann shot and scooped up the ground ball to give Princeton possession as time expired.

Columbia outshot Princeton 33-28, put Princeton had a 24-22 shot on goal advantage. The teams split draw controls 15-15 and Princeton had an 18-16 edge in ground balls.

Gattinnella had four points for Columbia with three goals and one assist. Mann had a hat trick and Geronimos and Johnson each had two goals. In goal Karlee Blanks made six stops. Columbia falls to 4-10 and 1-6 in league play.

Princeton improves to 8-6 overall and finishes the Ivy season 5-2. The Tigers will face Penn State on Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m., in the final regular season and home game of the season.
