Ghent Joins Monmouth Staff

from press release

- Monmouth women's lacrosse coach Denise Wescott has announced the hiring of Eileen Ghent as assistant lacrosse coach.

Ghent comes to Monmouth from nearby Rutgers University where she served as a player-assistant coach her last two seasons after suffering a knee injury that ended her career for the Scarlet Knights.

"It is exciting to have Eileen come in and work with our lacrosse program," said Wescott. "She will work primarily with our defense, and I know her experiences at Rutgers have prepared her well. I was amazed watching her on the sidelines last year running the sub box, and saw her coaching this summer with the NJ Ultimate Club Program. After a devastating knee injury that has kept her off the field she has worked very hard to grow as a coach and continue in the sport she loves. Her passion and enthusiasm are tremendous and I'm sure the defense will benefit from getting full time attention."

At Monmouth, Ghent will coach the Hawks' defensive unit and organize camps and clinics. The Silver Spring, Md. Native will also have recruiting responsibilities for MU along with other duties.

Ghent's playing career at Rutgers was cut short due to a number of knee injuries she suffered as a freshman and sophomore. After her second year in Piscataway she decided to become a player-assistant coach on Coach Laura Brand-Sias' team, preparing practices and helping organize and plan camps and clinics. She also helped Brand-Sias on the attacking end before being put in charge of the goal keepers as a senior. With Ghent heading up the netminders, RU's goalies finished second in the Big East in goals against average and third in the league in save percentage. She also is a club coach for Ultimate Goal in New Jersey and has coached for the Rebels Lacrosse Club as well.

Off the field she earned All-Big East Academic Honors twice and received the 'Genna Camiolo Award for Perseverance and Dedication. In high school she played three varsity seasons at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, leading the Crusaders to four straight league titles. She served as captain as a senior and earned First Team All-League honors as a defender.
