Cal Opens Season at St. Mary's

from press release

 – California begins the Ginger Miles era with a season-opening conference match at Saint Mary's on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m. in Moraga, Calif. Miles, the first-year head coach, governs a young squad that includes 16 underclassmen, eight juniors and four seniors. Those seniors – fifth-year Golden Bear Emily Abbood and Tara Arolla, Tori Harrison and Vail Horn – led the 2011 Bears to a 9-8 record and also comprise Cal's 2012 team captains.

The match at Saint Mary's will be the first official lacrosse game played on the Gaels' new turf field, which is located next to Saint Mary's Stadium.

A Look at the 2012 Season

In the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Preseason Coaches' Poll, Cal garnered a fourth-place standing, which is not surprising considering the 2011 Bears finished fourth in both the regular season and in the conference tournament. The 2012 Bears play three nationally ranked teams, including No. 9/11/14 James Madison on Feb. 23, No. 13/8/10 Boston College on April 14 and No. 6/9/17 Stanford on April 20. The rankings represent, respectively, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, the Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Poll and deBeer Women's Media poll.
