Conwell's Record Nine Goals Leads Saint Francis

from press release

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Saint Francis U. women's lacrosse team outscored Binghampton, 7-2, in the second half to pick up a 16-12 road win on Sunday afternoon. The victory evened SFU's record at 1-1 on the young season and gave first-year head coach Gregg Gebhard his first win with the Cardinal Red & White.

The Red Flash was led by a school-record nine-goal performance from Danielle Conwell(Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury). The junior attack also racked up 14 shots and an assist in her breakout contest. Junior Megan Ross (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) and senior Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) also registered multi-goal games with three and two scores, respectively.

The Red Flash jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the first half but the Bearcats shook off the rust of their offseason hibernation to knot things up, 5-5, in less than two minutes. The two teams matched each other goal-for-goal to post a 9-9 halftime score

The Bearcats took their only lead of the second half on a goal from Katherine Hunsberger to open the frame, but the Flash deficit would be short-lived.

Saint Francis took control from that point on, embarking on a 5-0 run over the next nine minutes to regain a commanding 14-10 lead. Binghamton was unable to slow down the Red Flash attack until interjecting with a score at the 14:16 mark. Over the final 14 minutes of play Saint Francis scored two of the final three goals, including the last goal of the game from Conwell for her ninth of the contest.

Catherine Helming (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) tallied the eventual game-winner at the 18:58 mark. Casey Burk (Moorestown, N.J./Delran) registered the assist.

Rookie goalie Caitlyn Flynn made 11 saves to tally her first collegiate win between the pipes.
