from press release

BALTIMORE - The Boston University women's lacrosse team scored the final eight goals of the game, including the game-winner with 1:46 remaining in regulation, to defeat UMBC, 12-11, on Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.

BU (6-4, 2-0 America East) trailed UMBC (4-6, 1-1 America East) by a score of 11-4 with 18:11 to play in the second half before the Terriers mounted their unbelievable comeback. Senior Annie Stookesberry scored her second game-winning goal in as many games, as she notched her ninth goal of the season with 1:36 remaining to seal the Terriers' fifth straight victory.

Junior Danielle Etrasco scored three of her four goals during the rally, while freshman Mallory Collins tallied twice during that span. Stookesberry, junior Kristen Mogavero and senior Molly Swain also scored as part of the eight-goal surge. Sophomore Christina Sheridan made seven saves, including three in the second half. She also gathered four ground balls.

The Terriers controlled four of the final five draws of the game, with sophomore Becca Church claiming the final one of the game. UMBC caused a turnover with 24 seconds left, but sophomore Sydney Godett caused her third turnover of the game with 16 seconds remaining and gathered the ensuing ground ball, her fourth of the contest, to preserve the victory.

Senior Hannah Frey put BU ahead, 1-0, at the 1:55 mark of the first half when she converted after a feed from senior Catie Tilton. UMBC scored the next five goals, however, to take a 5-1 lead with 16:05 left in the first half.

Mogavero scored her first goal of the game thanks to a Tilton assist with 14:58 to play in the opening stanza to make it 5-2 before Etrasco scored just over two minutes later to cut the Retrievers' lead to 5-3. After UMBC scored to make it 6-3, Swain converted a free position attempt to make it 6-4. The Retrievers concluded the first half scoring with 1:08 remaining to take a 7-4 lead into halftime.

The Retrievers built up an 11-4 lead before BU began its comeback. Collins collected a goal with 16:28 to play to make it 11-5 before Etrasco found the back of the net with 12:05 remaining. After Godett controlled the ensuing draw, Etrasco quickly scored to make it 11-6 with 11:16 to go in the game.

Swain scored the next goal on a well-earned second chance. Swain's first shot was saved, but Collins collected the ensuing ground ball and restarted the possession. Etrasco eventually got the ball back to Swain for the senior co-captain's 14th goal of the year.

Freshman Kelsey Marafioti then controlled a draw which led to Etrasco earning her second assist of the game on a Mogavero strike with 8:28 remaining. Etrasco then made it an 11-10 game when she scored with 7:37 left on the clock.

The Terriers tied the game when Stookesberry controlled the draw and eventually got the ball to Tilton, who fed it to Collins for the goal with 5:18 still left to play. Play continued even until the Retriever's Alicia Krause got a yellow card with just 2:14 left in the half. BU converted the ensuing clear before Collins found Stookesberry for the game-winner.
