from press release

AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore Katie Ferris scored six goals and added an assist to set the Massachusetts single-season scoring record and lead the 10th-ranked Minutewomen to a 19-4 win over Saint Joseph's at McGuirk Stadium Friday.

Led by Ferris' six scores and junior Cori Murray's four, six different Minutewomen scored as UMass improved to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play. UMass held a decisive 28-10 edge in shots and a 24-1 margin in draw controls.

Ferris now has 76 points this year, breaking Whitney Thayer's 31-year-old school-record of 74 points set in 1981. Her 148 career points also place her eighth all-time at UMass.

Saint Joe's (4-7, 0-2) was led on offense by Megham McDevitt who finished with two goals and an assist.

UMass scored three times in the game's opening seven minutes before SJU cut the lead to one, at 3-2 with 19:37 to play in the first. The Minutewomen then turned on the heat, scoring 14 unanswered goals - the final five of the first half and the first nine of the final frame - to secure their fifth-consecutive victory.

Senior Katie Florence made four saves in goal.
