from press release

Milwaukee, Wis. – Rutgers women's lacrosse, winners of seven of its last eight games, earned its first BIG EAST win with a 9-4 decision at Marquette on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights (8-2, 1-1) were led by redshirt senior midfielder Annie McGinley (Moorestown, N.J.) with three points on two goals and an assist.

Redshirt sophomore Hollie DiMuro (West Babylon, N.Y.) posted a strong game with her first goal of the season, as well as five ground balls and a caused turnover.

Junior midfielder Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.) added two scores, as eight Scarlet Knights registered a point. Senior goalie Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) made four saves to move to 8-2 on the year.

Marquette (2-8, 0-2) was led by Kenzie Brown with two goals.

MU scored first, but Rutgers roared back with four-straight goals over the next eight minutes. Halley Barnes (Garnet Valley, Pa.) tallied the equalizer, before Martinelli ripped off two-straight. Both unassisted tallies, the first goal came with a man advantage. Megan Clements (Pennington, N.J.) concluded the run, corralling a dish from McGinley.

The Scarlet Knights went into halftime with a 4-2 advantage after MU posted a goal with just under two minutes to play before the break.

After an early Marquette goal, Rutgers ripped off five of the next six scores to run away with the game. McGinley started the run with an unassisted score at the 27:52 mark. Freshman Chrissy Schreiber (East Meadow, N.Y.) added an unassisted tally and DiMuro finished the 3-0 spurt with a free position score.

A Golden Eagle score with 13:13 to play brought the squad within three, 7-4, but RU ripped off the next two goals to account for the final tally.

Rutgers will have 12 days between games to prepare for a five-game homestand. RU will face Connecticut on Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. The game will be held at Yurcak Field, weather permitting.
