Fucigna Ties Davidson's Career Point Record

from press release

CONWAY, S.C. – Junior Ann Fucigna tied the program's all-time points record as she was one of seven Wildcats with multiple goals on the day and Davidson picked up its school-record seventh straight win behind an 18-8 victory on the road at Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon in Big South women's lacrosse action.

Davidson (9-5, 6-0 Big South) broke the previous best winning streak of six by using a 10-0 run to close out the first half and open the new half after falling behind 3-1 in the early stages of the game.

Fucigna, who already set the all-time goals record this year, tied Amanda Fleck's record of 185 points with three goals and an assist in the win. She has a school-record 146 goals to go with 39 assists for her career. Fucigna scored twice and picked up her assist during the Wildcats' game-changing run.

Emily Cooke moved closer to setting yet another school record this year. The sophomore, who earlier set the single-season and single-game assist marks, and tied the single-game record for points, moved to within three points of tying Fucigna's single-season points record as she had two goals and three assists in the win to give her 71 points.

Mary Leonard tallied a career-high five points on two goals and a personal-best three assists. Alanna Parker had three goals, while Emma Sissman, Jean Atkinson and Erin Doherty each netted a pair of scores.

Coastal Carolina's (4-11, 1-5 Big South) Keri White picked up a team-best four points on two goals and two assists. Kimmy Delonge had two goals.

Delonge had given Coastal Carolina a 3-1 lead with 25:29 on the clock with her first goal of the contest, but Davidson caught fire and never looked back. Parker, who scored the 'Cats first goal of the game, sparked the big rally with a free-position goal less than a minute after Delonge's score.

Cooke, Atkinson, Doherty and Fucigna all followed with goals over the next 13 minutes and Parker fired in her third goal off a Cooke assist for a 7-3 lead. Later, Emily Rademacher registered her 16th score and Emma Sissman closed out the half with her 20th goal of the year for a 10-3 Wildcat advantage going into the break.

The second half saw Davidson score eight more times, including three in the first 15 minutes of the new half for a 13-4 lead. Paige Logan gave the Wildcats their largest lead of the game on her fifth score of the season to make it 18-7 with just over four minutes to play.

Logan, who had a team-high three caused turnovers, was one of five 'Cats to register two or more groundballs, with Davidson collecting 25 as a team. Holly Thomas picked up season bests of four groundballs and four draw controls.

The Wildcats were a perfect 3-for-3 on free-position shots and finished with 31 shots in all for the game. They tied Coastal Carolina with 14 draw controls and had just 12 turnovers as a team, to Coastal's 17.

Jessica Melby and Katy Boyle split time in goal, combining for two saves, with Melby picked up two groundballs and Boyle adding another.

Davidson wraps up its home slate of games with a Wednesday, April 17 contest against No. 9 Duke at 6 p.m.
