Mangan, Townsend Named Fairfield Captains

from press release

Fairfield University head women's lacrosse coach Mike Waldvogel announced today that Chloe Mangan (Sayville, N.Y.) and Caitlin Townsend (Silver Spring, Md.) have been selected as team captains for the 2013 season. The seniors were chosen by a vote of their teammates this fall.

"I am pleased to announce that CT and Chloe will serve as captains for the 2013 season," Waldvogel said. "Both Chloe and CT are natural leaders who have always lead by example both on and off the field. They are not only top notch players, but together they bring a level of energy, passion, and confidence to lead this team. Together this tandem knows what it takes to lead and inspire our 2013 team."

Mangan enters her final season with the Stags ranked ninth in program history with 98 goals and her 126 career points is eight shy of 10th on the all-time list. She has 107 career draw controls, which ranks sixth in school history, over her 60 career appearances. Mangan was named the Metro Atlantic Athetic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Year in 2010 after earning Rookie of the Year accolades the season prior. She has been amongst the team's top scorers in all three seasons and is a two-time All-MAAC First Team selection.

"Chloe's impact on our program is almost incalculable," said Waldvogel. "A natural leader, she is both the physical and emotional example for her teammates and epitomizes all that is great about Fairfield Lacrosse. We really couldn't ask for a better athlete, teammate and motivator to captain this squad."

Townsend has appeared in 40 games during her three year career with the Stags and begins her final campaign with 23 points and 10 ground balls. She excels in the classroom, where she is a two-time Dean's List honoree and boasts a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in each of her semesters on campus. Townsend has been recognized for her success on the field and in the classroom by being named to the MAAC All-Academic Team each of the past two seasons.

"CT has always led by example and it is a tribute to her character that her teammates have voted her captain," said Waldvogel. "CT is a player whose skills are only surpassed by her unselfishness and commitment to her teammates. She is driven to succeed and pulls the team with her."

Fairfield begins the 2013 season with three road games, opening the campaign at Monmouth on February 16. The Stags, five-time defending MAAC Regular Season Champions, open league play at Siena on March 30, putting a 30-game regular season league winning streak on the line.
